State News: WA off road machines ready to race

A scrutineering session at GTurbo’s Balcatta workshop marked the official start of the 2018 CAMS Carnarvon Motel Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship.

Many of the 47 competitors entered in the GTurbo Rod Hatter Memorial Perenjori 360 took the opportunity to gain the final seal of approval from CAMS scrutineers before the weekend’s event.

One of the attendees was Car 583, the WA Off Road Junior Development Program vehicle. Navigator Daniel “Fluffy” Fahey put the red HZ Holden Kingswood through scrutineering, while pilot Mathew Beck was competing in a race of a different kind – the Rottnest Channel Swim.

The wider off road community also attended the session to show their support to this year’s WA Off Road Championship teams, enjoy a sausage sizzle and watch the high power off road machines be put to the test during a free dyno tune.

The GTurbo Rod Hatter Memorial round of the Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship will be held 348 kilometres North of Perth in Perenjori, on 2-3 March.  Spectators are welcome at the designated spectator sites situated at Perenjori Oval and off Timmings St.
