It may be under a different name 50 years later, but it’s still the same intention for the Victorian Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) who will once again be displaying cars at this year’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Formally known as the Buggy Association of Victoria (BAV), the association are using the display as an opportunity to show people that CAMS also supports racing away from the asphalt.
While the club was only able to provide three cars in this year’s display due to a race occurring last weekend, VORRA spokesman Brett Price, was proud about the display.
“This year is about the seventh or eighth year having a display at the GP thanks to the hard work of Morrie Williams and Rob Langley,” Price said.
“Mark Hardman’s ‘Racer’ is a new Pro Buggy class out of the United States and multiple Australian Champion, Daren Wells is also displaying his newly restored car.”
Following this weekend, VORRA will continue holding events in their 50th anniversary year, with the Hindmarsh Shire Rainbow Desert Enduro the most important.
The race marks the final round of BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship, taking place on 10-12 August and Price is looking to build on the weekend’s previous success.
“Preparations are well advanced for the Hindmarsh Shire Rainbow Desert Enduro,” Price added.
“VORRA is working hard with the locals at Rainbow Victoria to make the Hindmarsh Shire Rainbow Desert Enduro exceed everyone’s expectations.
“We are building on the solid start from last year. The track was very popular with the competitors and will remain much the same with some fantastic locations for spectators.”
VORRA is also looking for volunteers and officials to help with administration, checkpoints, recovery, track marking, pit and spectator marshals for the event.
