NQORA prepared for inaugural enduro

Off Road enthusiasts inspired by the recent success of the Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399 have an opportunity to race with entries to the inaugural Pato’s 7 Hour Enduro still open.

Hosted by North Queensland Off Road Racing Association (NQORA) at the Millchester Motor Sports Facility in Broughton, competitors will be taking on a special 18km course for seven consecutive hours in teams of two cars.

Entries for the Enduro close on Friday 26 April, while discount entries are open are until 13 April and event secretary Don Young was excited for the club to hold the first ever seven hour enduro.

“It’s the first time we have adopted this endurance style event with seven hours of constant driving and I think it should be really entertaining,” Young said.

“We wanted to do something different from the usual events that we hold and we wanted to give our members some real seat time.

“We were inspired by the Sporties 12 Hour in Alice Springs, but didn’t want something that intense for our first event. So the only differences between ours and the Sporties is that ours is five hours shorter and not timed.”

With teams only allowed one car on the track at a time, each team will have a Velcro coloured band which they will swap in a relay style, allowing the second car to continue running laps.

While it’s in a different style and holds different challenges to both the St George 399 and Sporties 12 Hour, Young believes the multi-club event will be a success based on the members’ desire to compete.

“The event is more based on the laps you do rather than being timed and our competitors just want to drive as opposed to trying to be fast in short laps,” Young added.

“This is probably the best track that off roaders can race on and does not cut up when there a lot of cars which is different to a lot of other courses.

“I think the biggest challenge for the competitors will be refuelling while on the go, having a quick pit stop and really negotiating with their teammate, it’s a completely different throw up to what they are used to.”

The Pato’s 7 Hour Enduro will take place on 27 April and off road fans wanting to enter can email their entry form to [email protected].
