CAMS can today confirm there will be no changes to engine capacity allowed in any level of CAMS Off Road competition in 2018, including the BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship.
CAMS consulted widely with those involved in the sport, asking whether vehicles with a larger engine capacity should be eligible for next year’s Championship and beyond. The feedback we received suggested competitors would face significant costs if any technical change was implemented in such a short timeframe.
CAMS has also consulted with the promoters of each of the AORC rounds who are supportive of our approach.
In order for competitors and teams to adequately prepare for the upcoming Championship(s), CAMS can confirm there will be no change for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. This stance contributes to the technical solidarity and consistency of the Championship.
Over the next six months, CAMS and the Australian Off Road Commission will continue to analyse the impacts of a possible introduction of larger engine capacity vehicles for 2020 and beyond.
A final decision on the matter is forecast for mid-2018.
