It may not have been as quick as 2019, but the Tatts Finke Desert Race has once again filled up in just a matter of minutes with the entry list reaching capacity in 10 minutes.
Taking place on 10-14 June, 165 cars will now do battle between Alice Springs and the remote town of Finke in the second round of the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship.
With the Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399’s entry list reaching record numbers before closing earlier this month and Finke already full and a growing waiting list, it sets up a huge start to the 2021 AORC season.
Headlining the entry list will be international off road superstar Toby Price, who continues to hunt for his first car victory and nine-time AORC champions Shannon and Ian Rentsch, who will begin their 2021 campaign in their new set of wheels
For the first time ever, seven former race winners are entered in the event including David Fellows, Mark Burrows, Greg Gartner and Hayden Bentley, while a host of other big names looking for their first King of the Desert title such as West Australian star Beau Robinson, and 2019 Finke runner-up Josh Howells also made the cut.
Tatts Finke Desert Race Vice President Kelsey Branford was thrilled with the entry list and the quality of crews
“It’s fantastic that we were able to fill it so quickly. It’s always reassuring because it shows people are really keen to race in our event,” Branford said.
“To have seven former winners and so many other big names in the Australian off road community is wonderful and it should make for a very entertaining contest.
“Unfortunately there were 30 people to miss out as they ended up on the waiting list and I am sure the number will grow, but hopefully they can make it to future events.
“With the field now locked in, we can turn to getting everything else prepared for the event.”
