The intensity among competitors in the SXS Motorsport Australia Championship is reaching fever pitch, as multiple competitors look to claim a valuable Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race win.
As part of the final round proceedings of the 2025 season at Kalgoorlie, all points earned in the Prologue and on course will be multiplied by a factor of 1.5.
This means the maximum points haulage for a competitor in the SXS Championship this weekend will be 1050.
The SXS Championship remains for the taking, as Lachlan Bailey’s 2048 points is just 324 points ahead of Greg Campbell at the top of the standings.
SXS regular Glen Ackroyd is also confirmed to make his AORC return, following his Prologue crash at St George which kept him out of competing. Ackroyd and navigator Michael Price will be driving a new vehicle for the final race of the year with 1462 total points heading into this weekend.

The South Australian expressed he was feeling good heading into this weekend, again partnering up with navigator Jordan Zollo.
“I’m feeling confident about where we can go, it’s just going about our business as we normally do, but obviously things can happen in this sort of event. Hopefully, at the end of the weekend, we can be on a top step which would be awesome,” Bailey noted.
Bailey, who enters the Kalgoorlie Desert Race for the first time ever, entered a murky portion of the season, after a faulty shock absorber ended his run at the Tatts Finke Desert Race over the King’s Birthday Weekend – only collecting 100 points in the SXS Championship.
Bailey responded in a big way at the Loveday 400 and St George 399 driving the #622 Maverick R SXS machine.
Bailey mustered a runner-up class finish among the SXS Outright pool at Loveday, before backing it up with a SXS Championship event win at St George, finishing ahead of Campbell and Jack Livingstone (1354 points in SXS Championship).
“Well Loveday is our home race, which we really enjoy, so that event was pretty easy to get things back together again,” Bailey said.
“We knew we had the pace, obviously, because we were doing alright, then we moved on to St George to keep that momentum going. Glen made it pretty easy for us after he pulled out.
“We were able to win without pushing the car too much, and now it has helped us save the car for this race.
“I don’t really know what to expect at Kalgoorlie, but from what I have heard thinks it’s a fun track, fast, really fast with flowy corners. Everyone that I’ve spoken to enjoys the whole event, so I’m pretty excited for that.”
