Eligibility clarified for the Yamaha YXZ

CAMS has today confirmed details surrounding the eligibility of the Yamaha YXZ.

The YXZ is proving to be a popular choice for SxS competition in CAMS sanctioned off road events.

The current Yamaha YXZ 1000R, powered by a three cylinder naturally aspirated engine, is eligible for competition in the CAMS SxS Sport class.

CAMS is aware that a Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR®) Turbo kit is currently available for the Yamaha YXZ, and offered as a dealer fitted optional extra.

This Turbo kit is not fitted directly by Yamaha as the manufacturer, or fitted and sold as a Yamaha YXZ Turbo model. For this reason the turbo kit or fitment of a turbocharger to the Yamaha YXZ would result in the vehicle being ineligible and therefore not permitted for competition under the CAMS SxS regulations.

The fitment of a turbo kit is not in accordance with the manufacturers specifications for the vehicle as distributed by the manufacturer.

Should Yamaha release a production model of a SxS that is fitted with a turbo charger for sale from the manufacturer, then CAMS will reconsider the matter.
